My husband is a Hartford school teacher. They don't pay into a short term disability program, so they aren't entitled to disability pay. If she wants to contact Carol Gale, the union president, she can, but it won't go anywhere. If your friend wanted to, she could buy short term disability ins. on her own from any insurance company on her own, long term disability, life insurance, it's like any other ins. policy. But it's not covered in their union contract.

edit: It's another reason AFLAC is purchased by people.

Goes back to Colt Firearms. Making guns with interchangeable parts requires precision manufacturing and machine tools. People who became proficient in using machine tools spun off many businesses from Colts and the spin off businesses needed businesses to support them. The Connecticut River was a major transportation hub so you get a lot of industry along the river.

Im not sure what people are expecting you are moving into a city with a variety of people good and bad, living in closer quarters.

I love Bridgeport, but I have lived in some type of city my whole life and prefer this than living in rural area. Other towns have just as much issues- people just have more money to hide their problems & create a better image of their town.

As long as you are not out there flashing what you have & being aware of your surroundings you will be fine.

One of the qualities i have loved about growing up in cities is being exposed to different people, cultures & experiences. There are many hardworking people still living in the cities , who care about family & community & not everyone out there is a criminal.

Ha ha. The idea of splitting the state over guns is childish. If you do t see guns as a worthy problem you must be a Fox News sheep. It’s a public thread you wanker. Don’t post if you can’t take someone’s alternative opinion. And yeah I own guns ant act responsibly with then but too many do not.

It may be dependent on accumulated sick leave. That’s the case in my district. But we roll over unused sick days so it’s not hard to build up a few weeks worth - provided you aren’t a first year teacher, and then you’re out of luck.

If they don’t have any sick leave, some districts allow a ‘sick bank’ where teachers can donate a couple of their sick days. 🤷🏻‍♀️ That is a specific question for the union rep.

Every district is different, but in my district I would be able to be paid as long as my sick days covered it. And since sick days roll over and accumulate, you can have dozens, well over a hundred, depending on how long you’ve been in district.

Meriden is the Silver City of the World, Waterbury was the Brass City. Meriden made the best shotguns of anywhere in the world, I forget the name. One was gifted to the last czar of Russia. Meriden made So many different manufactured goods. Lamps. Bicycles were invented in CT.
