There’s all kinds of economic, historical, demographic, and even national security reasons why CT is home to a lot of manufacturing to this day.
Between Pratt/UTC/EB/Sikorsky/Raytheon, CT has continuously won contracting bids from the US gov & military industrial complex.
Some of the strongest industry/manufacturing skilled laborers per capita reside in CT.
CT also harbors centralized access to shipyards, NYC, Boston, & DC. Which is to say that recruiting/retention of employees is easy, and that deployment of newly manufactured equipment is relatively easy as well.
This is all while CT is basically home to critical military infrastructure that’s juuuuust out of range from the most likely attack targets on US soil (in the Northeast at least)

This happened to my family as kids traveling through Indiana. A tractor trailer came buy at a high rate of speed and the trailer went into a swerve. Our car didn't flip but, the trailer was on it's side. Scary for 12 year old me.
I remember Dad always saying "and not one egg broke!"

I used to visit this monument when I was in college at CCSU. Great landmark.

Its not but i would argue not the best place for walking at night. The crime rate is very much real and the city is pretty corrupt. The mayor is a convicted felon that ran, went to prison, and then ran and got elected again. Speaks volumes imo.

These posts have been coming up alot lately. The most common response is usually, “if you have some street smarts”. Take that as you will…

Unpaid leave, food bank, call all your bill and ask for delay. Union might have something where coworker can trade in 2 days for teacher to take one day off. I would try to push hard for the school to "accommodate" teacher

Yup. Take any pw or Collins product and basically every single sub component is manufactured by a mom and pop operation. From washers, to bolts, screws, printed wiring boards, connectors, harnesses, fan blades you name it. It's all made out of house. The only thing the big corps do (Lockheed raytheon, pw, EB) is design work, set requirements, and final assembly. Parts are all procured from all over the country and for commercial products, all over the world.

I agree on the union. It seems the union is pretty weak for it's members until they retire.
I believe once the teacher is in a walking boot, they can return to work

Blame the computer models. The European and US models are quite far apart and they basically decide on a mid point solution between both.

So I grew up near where the plaster original for the national Iwo Jima memorial in Arlington wound up, the Marine Military Academy in Harlingen, Tx. It's a pretty impressive sculpture.
This is a 1/2 scale or so version of that sculpture: same content, different artist's depiction. It's such a recognizable piece of art, though.
War sucks.

I lived in Bridgeport for 25 year total in my life. This is in the Mill Hill area, not in the east end. No this is not a neighborhood I would live in. In that exact neighborhood there are really good, hardworking people. There are also a lot of murders, car thefts, muggings, ect.
Another thing that people on here probably wont mention is this area of town used to have a lot of industry and has a lot of dilapidated buildings. The air quality is NOT GOOD.
There is no full Grocery Store in this neighborhood, just mini marts and bodegas.
There are 100% areas of Bridgeport I would still live in. Black Rock, The North End, & Brooklawn.
Just like any other major city you will probably be fine if you mind your business, have a garage to park your car, are not flashy, ect, but statistically that neighborhood is not good.
I love Bridgeport this is not a nock on the town. If you can afford to live elsewhere please do so.

The part between the off ramp towards Bristol and Queen street is such a pain because there is no turn round middle lane or any way to get off so if you are in that section when something is ahead you are boned. I'll never forget getting out of work early due to snowy weather one year, driving by tons of cars that had slid off the road, seeing people driving too fast who slide off the road, got 15 minutes from home only to see someone try to speed by a car further up to get ahead, slid into said car, causing a four car pileup that blocked the road and took 2 hours to clear.

Love seeing that the traffic on the opposite lane is backed up due to looky--loos slowing down to see what is up.
