I think their express desire to not let anyone pass was a function of them pursuing someone ahead, or a possible a fire/hazard/explosives in transit or something to protect drivers from themselves. I once was the first car at the George Washington Bridge tollbooth after the bridge was closed to allow transport of explosives across the span and I was all ready to go 100 mph unimpeded across. Two cop cars spanning all three lanes get in front of the tollbooths and release everyone at exactly 40 mph across. It isn't their first rodeo. Your girlfriend is a typical douche who thinks she's so important, she simply must pass everyone, including those trying to protect her.

Yes, definitely a traffic break maneuver. Here's a video of one in action, you can see the driving looks erratic at times, but the cruiser is trying to slow down the flow of traffic because of a hazard that's ahead.

I don't know why anyone would think it a smart idea to pass a police car with flashing lights in this situation!

They didn’t have those at the time, you need infantry to support tanks. I am more afraid of marauding packs of criminals should the grid fall. Even with isolated riots, the government pulls out of areas and lets law abiding citizens/businesses fend for themselves. Imagine if there should be a major conflict (downfall of order) it’s not the government you have to worry about it’s the scum who depends on the government who will have nothing and stop at nothing to obtain sustenance.

This is where the rub is, if im far enough ahead going atleast the speed limit lets say 70 and im way in the clear to get over and actively taking it. Im not speeding up to beat the asshole who decides to do 80 to try and beat me.

What happens if i have to break because of the car in front of me? I look out for me and drive defensively especially in this area. Maybe you have to be there to understand?

If you are in a hurry get in the passing lane, its that simple.

I work on it. First phase is all structural steel repair, under the bridge. AKA the only evidence of work from above is the lane closure to reduce live load on repair nodes. Three year contract that started in spring 2022. 2nd and 3rd phases saw the engineer get fired so another design needs to come out. I expect at least a year delay from that. Hopefully phases 2 and 3 (they are combined) go out to bid for construction to begin in 2026.
