> It was Super Bowl Sunday in February 2019. Cynthia Rivers and her husband decided that their kids, ages seven and nine, deserved a long-promised treat for cleaning their rooms: the right to walk to Dunkin' Donuts by themselves. (Reason has changed her name to protect the family's anonymity.)

I didn't read that last sentence at first and was trying to search for this story in other news sources but kinda hard when I don't have the name of the person.

> The officers also claimed that they had received a dozen 911 calls about the kids during the short time they were gone. Rivers thought this was unlikely, as they had only made it past four other homes

Yes it is hard to believe but not in the way Rivers is saying. Seems like there is more to this story they aren't telling us.

I moved to the New Haven area about 8 years ago (originally from West Hartford), and if it wasn’t for gyms and a local job that I held then I’m not sure how I would’ve met friends outside of my husband (he’s from New Haven). You and I are the same age, and I fully understand the need to have your own group of trusted friends. How far are you from New Haven? I’d be happy to meet up or share some of the places I’d suggest you check out.

Wow, nice.

Wouldn't even have been worth the time filling out the paperwork if that's all they're sending out.

Both times I purchased a new car in CT, the dealers didn't event screw the front plate on. Drove for a year and a half with the first car before I got a warning for not having it. I threw it up on the dash until my oil change and made the dealer put it on. Doesn't seem like anyone really follows this. Cops in the quiet corner are bored though, so they seem to notice.

Pretty sure I just saw you on my street getting a jump.

I was homeless in CT for 3 1/2 years but over in the Simsbury/Avon area. The coldest I was ever in was -13° and never left my car running to stay warm while I slept. Summers were actually a lot harder to survive in.

I don’t have the means to help you but some things you should do if you can…

Get a PO Box and forward all your mail from your previous physical address to the PO Box through USPS. This makes getting a job easier.

Get a YMCA membership for low income. Use it to shower.

Go to the library when you have no where else to go to stay warm.

Buy a cheap down sleeping bag from Walmart but wrap it around you unzipped because body heat leaks through the zipper teeth. Tuck your undershirt into your pants to keep body heat in.

Call the local Social Services for surrounding towns to see if they can help you with anything. Sometimes they’ll even have food to give.

Never sleep with your car running.
