That's the UK, they are far more densely populated that we are. I'm a huge fan of wood heat (just installed an outdoor wood boiler). Burning wood makes a lot of sense in more rural areas. But if everyone in a densely populated town/city got wood stoves it would certainly get smoggy.

Anyone who doesn’t pay their bill would eventually be sent to collections and or disconnected, if they didn’t meet the criteria to be safe from a shut off. The costs for unpaid bills just get passed onto residents. So, it’s really futile to just refuse to pay a bill without the backing of some legislators on board to change things, legally.

Wife's family has lived in Vernon for at least three generations, GMIL had dozens of slide carousels stacked up, plus some albums around. That's not even counting all the ancient vinyl records I need to sift through. A lot of the stuff is going to end up either at the Vernon Historical Society or to UConn; a good portion of the latter are recordings of the UConn Band going back to the 50s and 60s.

I think that pointing out wrongdoing is not going to help you here, and what may be needed is just an acceptance that damage done cannot always be undone. But you still need to care for yourself no matter how bad you feel about your role in this. Just as she needs to do the same. School administrator here. A lot of reasons for this, but a big one is DCF does not pursue educational neglect any more.
