As a former teacher, I agree. We used to let the kids (mostly boys) play basketball at lunch (high school) and then they took it away as punishment for a few kids doing something they shouldn’t. Made the post-lunch school day so much less productive. The kids who needed the basketball to get out their energy really really needed it.

Yeah, or, maybe, JUST maybe, this is an old outdated disciplinary technique that has been proven to be entirely counter productive… and maybe… JUST maybe, you’re defending those outdated techniques because ‘I had it worse and turned out just fine’.

I'm not sure if you're in a position to volunteer at the moment, but Naugatuck Soup Kitchen can always use some hands, and I know the local animal shelters (Animals For Life in Naugy and Whiskers in Southbury) were looking for help recently. It's not immediate friendships, but it is a way to be social and meet some people and help some others.

Yep republicans definitely love the fact that this 16 year old kid with a history of violently assaulting people had a stolen and loaded gun on school property that he couldn’t have owned legally regardless because he’s 5 years under the age to legally purchase a handgun. If youre going to be ridiculous enough to insinuate that all republicans love guns, than at least have a shred of intellectual integrity to include the “legally owned/law abiding” part.

There are just so many better ways you could spend your time than being this purposefully obtuse.

My school used to do this, they’d make us sit against the wall outside. Sometimes it’d be the entire grade all sitting in silence. All I know is class was always wild once we got back inside. There isn’t a single benefit of taking recess away, it doesn’t teach kids any sort of lesson

Totally sympathize with you both, I'm from CT but left when I was 18 and came back when I was like 26. All my friends are in NJ and my best friend who was like my brother that was actually here died when I moved back. Seems like most everyone really solidifies friendships and a lot of people pick their (at least first) partner during that period, so moving alone to a totally new area far from where your from can really be a lonely experience.

It was wise of the state to use Covid funds for this purpose since this was directly affected by covid but that doesn't change what I said about the current American cirriculum. I don't think it should come as a suprize that kids are skipping school after spending 2 yrs at home and getting some of the worst education that we've ever seen

I’ve lived in Madison for 15 years and have two kids in the school system.

I honestly don’t think I’d give either town the edge on schools or quality of education. They are both excellent.

Madison has better athletics.

Guilford has a better green and restaurants and is a much more agrarian community.

Both towns have excellent public libraries.

Madison has much better beaches including hammonasset state park.

Guilford has better community events and a more community focused police force.

Madison has a country club if that’s your thing.

Home prices tend to be a bit higher in Madison.

This has also been happening at my son's school and it's very frustrating. He's a high energy kid and needs the release during the day. I guess I have to look into their policy on it...

Yes, but certain vehicles might be exempt if the front design prevents them from being mounted (extremely rare)

Also if you have out-of-state plates, front plates are optional.
(common in New London county where military folks are often still out-of-state residents and can maintain their vehicles registered out-of-state. The amount of Hawaii and Florida plates is crazy in Groton.)
