Reply to comment by private-rhyzzo in For those familiar and not just “hearsay-ers”… any condo/apt recommendations (good or bad) in Columbia? Deal breakers for me are poor management, extreme noise (subjective I know), and unkempt grounds. by teedotjay39
Sorry to hear that for you. The only real issue I've had in my building over the past 15 years was when a Comcast service tech broke a pipe in the attic that flooded the entire building aside from my unit. That was taken care of very quickly, but I guess that's because it was on Comcast's dime.
Hopefully you don't experience any more issues!

Sure. We had an issue with water leaking from internal pipes and damage it was causing over time. To be honest, I don't know the specifics of what was happening because my husband dealt with it. But it was eventually determined that the condo assoc was responsible for replacing them and repairs to a couple units, including ours.
We tried to stay in regular contact with them over how to proceed with everything, like scheduling the repairs when we would be home, etc. They made it so difficult. We would send multiple emails/multiple voicemails and get nothing but radio silence for weeks. We actually ended up having a very handy contractor friend look at it and we paid for the repairs out of pocket. The damage was getting worse over the time that we spent trying to reach them.
We actually had to go on the overall company's website and call a manager from a completely different area just to get a response. After that we received a check for half of our out of pocket expenses. We haven't bothered to hound them for the other half since then, even through it was promised, because it doesn't feel worth the effort.
Since then I do know that the manager of our neighborhood has been replaced, but I haven't kept up with anything. I'm too salty.
This was all a few years ago, so the grounds may be better cared for now. I honestly haven't paid attention because of difficult jobs/personal issues.

Do you have a source for this? Want to be sure before I get the husband's hopes up lol.

I think that one is going to be in the Home Depot center. They have a job posting for it which says Snowden River & Robert Fulton. Unless that's just a generic placeholder, not sure. https://jobs.raisingcanes.com/jobs/53865?lang=en-us

Still close! Probably a much better option given the traffic they generate elsewhere.

Raising Cane's is replacing the closed Ruby Tuesday in the shopping center with Home Depot, on Snowden River Parkway.

Wow, I live in the same area and have never really experienced any of this. I feel like they take good care of the grounds in terms of mowing and snow removal. Just curious, what kind of problems have you experienced if you don't mind sharing?

Same as the bagel bin that was there. Probably nothing for a very long time

Like everyone else said, it's an extremely safe area, great place to live (unless you are looking for an active nightlife), great schools, pretty area with a lot of amenities. The commute... well, I can't say anything nice about that lol but I moved to Columbia in 2005, and this year we finally sold our townhouse, searched all over the state within a somewhat sane commute to Silver Spring, basically looked everywhere except the western part of the state... and ended up moving into a house 2 miles from our old house LOL ... 3 months of non-stop searching smh... I think you'll really like the area :)

Keep up the great work with the Merriweather Post! Local Howard county news is hard to come by.

If they’re gonna do coffee it would be nice if they did something local like Rise Up.

I’m hoping Raising Cane’s. They’re expanding in MD and there was discussion about one coming to Columbia.

We are in the Montgomery Run area off of Snowden Pkwy. Stay away. I hate our condo assoc (Tidewater) with the strength of a thousand suns. Mostly awful management and radio silence/complete incompetence when trying to resolve any issues. It typically takes months to get any actionable follow up for anything. I am so salty about their $300+ monthly fee.
I mean, they mow the grassy areas once every couple weeks in the summer. Guess they're doing their job. /sarcasm
I know Tidewater manages a few complexes, not sure which ones.

True, but that means the rent's going to be much higher which limits who can open a location there
