Ooh, I haven't tried Cozy Cafe yet! Thanks for the recommendation!

I do miss Rustiq. I really liked their oat bread and avocado sandwiches. I think the Savage Roggenart location still serves Rustiq's everything croissants and their Pain Suisse. I've generally had good experiences at Roggenart, so it's good to see they're doing well.

And yeah, Shilla is great too! My favorite thing from there is their nut tartlets. Good tea cookies and savory croquettes too. They also have an unexpectedly amazing sandwich, which is like a frybread with ham and pickled cabbage?? I have no idea what it's called, but that was a great unexpected lunch find.

Yeah, I actually have a pot of their French Toast blend brewing right now! It's making my whole kitchen smell soooo nice. :)

I do miss Bean Hollow. I had heard after the floods that the owner was considering opening up a coffee shop in Catonsville? I wonder if that ever happened.

"It is with a very heavy heart that I share the news of a tragic car accident that Dr. Zayneb and their two daughters were in last night.

Dr Zeyneb’s car was struck by a truck yesterday. She had both of her daughters with her, Alif (7) and Maryam (3). Baby Maryam passed away. Sister Alif is in critical condition and Dr. Zeyneb is in stable condition."

Woah - thank you for mentioning a blast from my past! I worked at Mad City Coffee two decades ago. That spot had been a pizza place and a convenience store prior to Bill converting the space to a coffee spot. If my memory serves correctly, it was also originally part of the Riverside Roastery family located in Ellicott City. That EC location was later called Bean Hollow, but has been closed and boarded up completely since the 2 major (nearly) back-to-back floods on historic Main Street. So many good times were had and copious amounts of caffeine ingested while on and off the clocks. I highly recommend them for their coffee!

Also, newer developments aren’t Columbia. They are either out parcels or other parts of Howard County (think Clarksville & Elkridge). Columbia is just overpopulated at this point. Development has made that so. There isn’t enough infrastructure to support the population.

Appreciate your feedback, though.

You’re right. However, what you just stated didn’t actually happen, and a helicopter needing to take person(s) to shock trauma did. You are not an EMT, you are not a police officer, you are not an EMS employee, so please stop acting like you know better than the folks who’s job it is to do this stuff.

Do you really think this place would more affordable if nothing more was built? Really?

> Additionally, the farms were sold by the landowners. That was their choice. This wasn’t some eminent domain kind of situation.

I used farmers as a proxy for anyone who lived here in the 60s. Don’t run away from the point. Why is your idealized Columbia ‘ruining’ the vibe and culture of their community ok while you complain about development “ruining” your community.

> You mentioned the same level of kids, which I refuted, and now you are backing off on that point.

Where? Where did you refute the number of kids in a neighborhood? You said there said there aren’t as much kids in your area. I said the distribution was to newer developments. And you said nah uh I refuted it. So where is the refutation?

Never mind the link between development and your perceived decline in “community character” is pretty nebulous.

Housing is continually blocked in Hoco by people like you who paint Rouse as a Jesus figure. Especially the apartments that would have housed lower income people. I’m over the cult of Rouse.
