I've walked and ran the trails at night. In 3 years maybe seen one obnoxious drunk. Otherwise it's just someone else on a late night walk. Sometimes with their dog

I’ve lived in navy yard for a year now and my boyfriend for 5. I felt okay here when I first moved in but now it’s to the point where there’s shootings in broad daylight right outside our apartments.

Indaroma in northern Virginia has gulab jamun cheesecake that is delicious

We love coming to Navy Yard from time to time but I agree living there is a little different. Columbia definitely feels a lot safer, especially if you’re looking in areas around HCC, towards Fulton, Clarksville, Ellicott City, Woodstock etc

Yes, absolutely. Admittedly I don't walk on the trails after dark, but I've lived in Columbia for over 10 years and never felt unsafe. In most neighborhoods the crime is limited to car break ins.

That doesn't surprise me. But at least they are limiting the fire danger by doing small batches.

I've never seen a cake version there (or even honestly heard of anyone making it as a cake before today).

Honestly, it's validating to know we aren't alone in our struggles.
And that high pitched sound you're hearing is a deer deterrent device. It's so fucking obnoxious.
One piece of optimism that I try to keep in mind is that younger generations moving to this neighborhood seem to be much more sensitive to causing indiscriminate nuisances and preserving the naturalistic setting.

I think Royal Taj near 175 and 108 has it on the menu sometimes.

The only place I know would likely have it is Cake Wala in Ellicott city.

I just commented on another post about a retiree who dual-wields gas powered leaf blowers down the street from us, but it looks like you already know him and have to deal with it...I'm so sorry. As a side note, there is a house across the street from him, and slightly down the road toward the cul-de-sac, that emits a very high pitched whine that my wife and I have noticed for years. Ever heard it/dealt with it? Most of the people in that neighborhood are too old to hear it and it drives us nuts when we walk by...

Imagine the government maintaining that you need mufflers or catalytic converters on your vehicle due to air and noise pollution...oh wait.
"A 2011 study showed that a leaf blower emits nearly 300 times the amount of air pollutants as a pickup truck. Similarly, a 2001 study showed that one hour using a gas-powered lawn mower is equivalent to driving a car 100 miles" https://sustainability.wustl.edu/rethinking-lawn-equipment-2/#:~:text=A%202011%20study%20showed%20that,driving%20a%20car%20100%20miles.

I get the feeling they don’t follow County regulations. They seem to only do it on the weekends and only burn in small batches.

County regulation says you can only burn wood in fire pits.

Don’t.

It wasn’t someone in the apartments. It was the house directly behind them. Looks like they are burning leaves in their fire pit.

Bridges to housing stability is a great local org that provides subsidized housing to low income families. They're always looking for help fixing up their next place and sometimes take furniture donations https://bridges2hs.org/

It’s definitely more of a family vibe here in Howard county. It takes more effort to get to “night life” types of events, but there’s lots of good food and family friendly entertainment locally :-) (inclusive of breweries that you can take your kids to…and close on the early side haha)
