That close to 95 and wanting to live in Columbia, you're likely best off on 95 anyway. In which case, a neighborhood with easy access to 95 is ideal. Kings Contrivance is split in the middle by 32, only about two miles from 95, and is a wonderful neighborhood. If you're interested in outside of Columbia, there are a lot of nice places in the Elkridge area, also right off 95.

In Harford County I’ll be .5 mile from 95 off the Belair exit, so on that end I’m probably about as ideal as possible for quick access.
What areas of Columbia would you suggest to not add unnecessary time onto the commute?
We still have a lot of research to do and will be visiting Columbia in person plenty before deciding. But currently I’m not not too familiar with the local map down there.

This is the place I go to when I like to hear conversation, Pug dog and other options typically are much louder than Neo. Plus the self serve tap is a cool novelty.

Depends on where in HoCo/Columbia and where in Harford County.
695 and 95 are going to be challenging for any commute, especially for this distance. If you have backroads available, you can likely make this work and get a nice scenic, low stress, commute on your books.

Sapwood Cellars (Columbia) has the best beer in the state/region, and their taproom has the best atmosphere in the county. You won't regret going there.

Leaf burning is illegal in all the suburban counties of Md. and has been for many, many years. (I vaguely remember my dad doing it back in the 1960s in PG County.) I wish that wasn't the answer, but I understand why it is.

I do this commute daily. If you can adjust your schedule to avoid rush hour, it’s ideal (I usually leave work in Hartford Co after 6pm). The tunnel(s) is quicker than 695, but daily toll isn’t an option for everyone. In my experience, the commute is closer to an hour.

Traffic is always going to be an issue in the DMV area unfortunately. I would not move further south than Columbia, that being said

between gambrills and EC, you'll find jailbreak in laurel, right where 32 meets route 1. i recommend it all the time. great beer, great kitchen, chill atmosphere.
crooked crab is a good in-between location as well right off 32 and telegraph road (170), though the beers there tend to be more on the hoppy/crafty side compared to jailbreak, so really good if you're into that sort of thing. they don't have a kitchen, but lots of places deliver to that location.
if you want to meet in glen burnie, which would probably be about twenty minutes drive for the both of you, pappas and olive tree have nice bars and fairly conventional comfort food menus.

Yup, it has been allowed for a long time. It falls under recreational burning and cooking fires as well. Recreational burns used to require a person to obtain a permit prior to lighting the fire. Essentially the only thing allowed without permit was a "cooking fire", which in all reality could be a bonfire as long as you had a pack of hot dogs next to it. In 2016, I believe, the county eliminated the need for a permit, however individuals still needed to follow the rules that were previously outlined for the permit.

According to the HoCo fire code, burning of leaves is not allowed. The only acceptable fuel is dry seasoned firewood. Leaves are explicitly prohibited. https://www.howardcountymd.gov/fire-and-rescue-services/burn-permitsrecreational-fire-permits

Well I agree neo gets expensive fast. Neo has ok food and while the self serve beer is fun and allows you to try a lot of different beers, it gets pricey.
