Vim was great and had company discounts for many larger companies in the area. Super easy to cancel as well when I moved. I completed an online form, didn't even need to talk to anyone.

The Y and VIM both get the job done, but very different vibes. Boston bouldering project in Sommerville also has a full gym for about the price of VIM (trying to find a gym around cambridge is how I discovered climbing)

I wasn’t super into VIM. It always seemed relatively busy, there were a few pieces of equipment I really wanted that they didn’t have, and, to me, it always smelled a bit funny. Classes were generally pretty good though. The 2 locations is kinda nice, but they’re real close to each other. I bet if I went during off hours (if those exist) I would have enjoyed it more.

The original owner (Pierre) sold out several years back. Before the pandemic I think, but I’ve lost all concept of time. I haven’t been there since, but it was great at the time.

Not too many other options in Central. I think all of the BSCs closed. Maybe someone will take their space eventually. Karma yoga toward HSQ had an upstairs gym that no one knew about and was pretty much private. They’re gone though.

Do you know anyone affiliated with MIT. Getting an MIT fitrec membership is a great option in this area. There’s always the YMCA in Central…

I cannot help you directly, but for what it’s worth: I’ve been pretty successful with Thumbtack (in Somerville). It’s an app/service for finding all kinds of experts/handy people/whatever. Like, I’ve found people to do quality work for really reasonable rates.

(Writing the above makes me feel like a shill but like, I really have had a good experience with it. YMMV I guess, but maybe give it a shot.)
