Get a distiller (I use megahome) and remineralize it. I run a gallon before I go to bed and it’s the purest water you’ll ever taste. These are the trace minerals I use. Extremely pure.

I have a Berkey I bought around a decade ago and recently tried taking it out of storage. I think it’s ok but the water is not as pure as distilling your water.

Berkey filters are not well regarded here. The company refuses to use the industry standard testing that everyone else uses while still claiming their filters are the best in the world. People who have tested water from them show varied results.

I used to have one and after some research got rid of it. We now have a basic home filter plus some emergency filters. Sawyer squeeze and lifestraw family are both good options.

I have the aquatru and love it. Annoying part is small capacity so constantly having to add more water throughout the day

I’ve had one for about 3 years, and it’s held up well to offshore and onshore fishing in the mid Atlantic (winter and spring). Probably not truly BIFL for hard wear, but I’ve worn through several jackets over the years, and this has held up the best.

There's currently a class action lawsuit against Berkey claiming their filters don't achieve anywhere near the contaminant reduction percentages they claim. There's a wirecutter article worth reading.

Yeah I’ve got a variety of wool layers as I vary between the extreme cold and quite warm multiple times over the course of a day, and sweat is the real killer. But I’m mostly after something that fits well, will last long, and will still stand up to a Scandinavian winter. I’ll take a look at West Marine though, haven’t heard of them!

For temps that low, you’re talking layers. If you looked at HH, take a look at the West Marine offshore series. Work very well as a shell and come as High Vis

I mean, there is some truth to this though. Compare a new Lodge to a vintage Griswold and the latter is noticeably more refined - lighter weight and smoothed. Not that the older pan is more durable, but the craftsmanship is better. They do still make cast iron pans like the old ones, but Lodge and other department store brands don't; you need to go to one of the expensive boutique makers to find one.

No, it isn't, that's just what some people have tried to turn it into. I've been around here since the beginning, and the sub was never about "showing off" anything, it was about discussing high quality products and where to purchase them. Not sure where to find a cordless beard. But the trimmer I have had for 12 years without fail is a Wahl homepro. It was cheap and it's far outlived its price. The internals are basic. Just keep it oiled. It seems the other comments here have bad Wahl experience. Perhaps they used to be great and are now circling the drain... Sad if that's true.
