You can buy $5 nail clippers, no one is stopping you. These have stayed sharp for me, are ergonomically designed and have eliminated hangnail issues that I got from cheaper nail clippers that would invariably lose their sharpness over time.

Darn tough socks also get holes after lots of use, but they are another brand that stay by their guarantee to fix or replace.

Just get the toro, maintenance on them is cheap.

I bought several AA/AAA battery powered digital alarm clocks off Amazon in the past 5 years and believe it or not they don't keep time! Some run fast, some run slow, which I didn't think was possible for digital clocks. I wish I had an old school alarm clock as shared recently.

Even if they crap out now, you'd spend $27 to last 80 years. Versus $80 for one pair to hopefully last 80 years.

This is an odd one to me. I have a pair from Walgreens that has lasted 10+ years. What’s the benefit of one with a “pin”?

I’ve been rocking the same pair (not the same pair as OP) for 15 years. Pretty sure I got them at Walmart for $5.99.

Haven’t needed to be repaired yet.

Seems like it’s not well made if a pin keeps breaking. That’s one of the features of BIFL products.

Wooo... $80. Just curious, is there anything special that can justify the price? I mean, a $10 pair should atleast last 10 years.

I've been really disappointed in their base layers, I've worn holes in mine in less than a season, nice and warm, but definitely not bifl. On the other hand I have Craft long underwear and Duofold items that are nearly 20 years old that are in better condition than any of my Smartwool pieces.

The main issue seems to be the pin malfunctioning after a few years, but Klhip has always stood by their product guarantee and repaired it when mailed in.

I don’t have any of their base layers, but I have several pairs of smartwool socks that are between 15-18 years old and still in great condition. They get weekly use in the cold months, and I still prefer them to all my new Darn Toughs. I bought my SW while going to college in the Rockies when they were still made in USA, and I’d still be buying them if they didn’t move their manufacturing.

Depends on how much you'll wear them. Solovair are nice but you pay a lot for uk labour and for the iconic style. They're not the best boot you can get out of 200$.

To ask for 10 years out of daily worn boots is a lot, but 20 years is twice as much!

Ultimately, that's less than the cost of two "higher end" pairs of sneakers. Those won't last a year of daily wear without at least getting the heel torn up. The Solovairs will last longer, especially with some upkeep. These kinds of boots aren't indestructible, but if e.g. the heel cover tears up a cobbler can cheaply sew on another one, or if the sole wears out it can be replaced...

BTW I think Solovair offers free or very affordable shipping.

If you want the most out of your money, check out Jim Green. They're better boots than the Docs/Solovairs for less money. They're definitely not as stylish though.

Second this, I use it under a hardshell when things get seriously cold (-25 c and colder) in the bush when I'm doing fieldwork and it's phenomenal warmth for the price. Got a couple small holes from the rough usage I put it through, but a bit of tenacious tape and it's all set

I have a new one with the blade shut off feature. It’s a great machine so far just found a deal on marketplace for it in November new hardly used

The Smartwhool mock turtleneck with the 1/4 zipper is a game changer for people who work outdoors. Keeps the back of you neck warm in the morning. Allows you to regulate temp as you start moving.

I've been loving my patagonia thermal layer, but the elastic is goign out and been thinking about getting something to replace them.
