Radios that are capable of going through densely populated areas (aka lot’s of concrete / structural impediments) are expensive, require a LOT of power and are not available in a ‘walkie talkie’ format.

+1 for Asolo. Had a pair of FSN 95's that I daily wore at college for 4 years. Even had them resoled cause they were so good.

Unfortunately, they (dayseal) seems to be the only ones with replacement gaskets and seals for our vintage Sumbeams.

I would strongly recommend getting both when you replace the gasket, as the seal inside (accessible by twisting the 'cone' underneath the top half off) will most likely not be very reliable, if not failed already. Just be sure to tighten everything up VERY WELL or you will have a (literal) hot mess! TRUST ME, I KNOW. If you break down and get the gasket, a few dollars more for the secondary seal isn't really so bad- just consider it 'insurance' for proper operation.

I'm pretty fond of my Osprey. I've had it for a few years now and it still looks and performs like new. They likely have some day packs for under $100 US.

If you're looking for very basic and inexpensive, though, Jansport is a good choice.

Pretty much matching all your requirements, and quite literally the only pants I own (albeit a handful of pairs in different colors) is the Mountain Hardwear AP Pant. I even cycle to work and the crotch holds up well.

I have also had a leather fossil wallet for over 5 years. It is doing great! I also have a leather fossil bag I found in a thrift store about 15 years ago, I suspect it was about 10 years old when I bought it, I use it frequently and treat the leather every couple of years, it’s still gorgeous!

I have a few oil lamps that come in handy when the electricity goes out. Very rarely used them when I lived in the city but moved out to the country 3 years ago and they earn their keep now.

I picked up a leather wallet off the sidewalk in 1995 that was pillaged of its contents and have been using it for almost 28 years. Can't give you any advice on that one.

As a Chicago winter alumnus it’s more about the socks than the shoes. The shoes/boots need to do well against repelling water/snow, but even the best boots aren’t going to do double duty on warmth. Invest in some good wool socks (darn toughs for example). I’ve worn similar boots to the LL beans with good wool socks for hours in sub zero wisconsin and been fine. Without the socks I’d have been done in under and hour. Just my thoughts for what they are worth.

My unused 30C had its gasket stuck. I was able to separate the two pots but the gasket stayed on the lower pot. It looks like the gasket is not pliable. Do you know a source other than dayseal?

I don’t know man. Seems like you’re in search of a unicorn. Lasting a long time and comfy out of the box are not traits that typically coincide.

I bought a vans backpack 15 years ago that's still going strong with daily use. It was one of the more expensive ones they had and was like $80 or something. It's ripped once, but that was easily stitched back up and one of the zippers is starting to get a little stubborn.

I'd stay away from their cheap stuff, but their nicer stuff always lasts me for years and years.

IMO Any briefcase that you like under $2000.00 is perfect. If you spend over $2000.00 most probably people will think you are a perfect moron.

It’s been a couple years since I was in Germany by I saw several men carrying them. They just tended to have darker, more somber colors. But, if that’s a real concern fjallraven makes several other styles that are well within your price range.

Firehouse flex is questionable. I have 3 pair and they are probably the most comfortable pair of pants I’ve had. However, I use a pocket knife and small flashlight clipped into my front right pocket frequently, and within a year the pocket seam is torn to shreds. I have three pairs and wouldn’t dissuade you from them, but depends what you do. I also have 2 pair of under armor enduro pants. These have surprisingly held up much better than the Duluth. The Duluth shrunk up an inch or two in length as well after a few months of use. I work as a shop floor engineer for heavy equipment and frequently do mechanic-esque work FWIW.
