It's always frustrated me that this stuff, and fleece, is often sold as camping or outdoor gear, but get it close to a campfire and this can happen lol. I like this type of gear, but it is annoying.

This post has sparked some reading and it appears that you can now buy more robust versions of the Aladdin vacuum bottle that have the charcoal liner and thicker stainless. Perhaps the market spoke and they responded?

Couldn’t decide to do it by color or date. I thought about it more than I should have. Ultimately decide the different 1990s should be alone and the greens together.

Beautiful machine, I know nothing about typewriters but it looks like there’s some weird ghosting/smearing on a few portions of the sample. Most notably near the 0 (zero) and the “la” in inflation. Is that normal? I really like the dollar sign with the double slash, though; that seems kind of unique.

That’s awesome! Stanley is a pretty great company from what I’ve read. They seem to be doing a lot of good with bringing their brands back to the US.

I work at a furniture dealership and comfortable commercial furniture does indeed exist. There’s so many options out there but in my experience National Collette has been the most “resimercial” for comfort and look.

I have a lot of commercial furniture in my home. My next purchase will be the Gunlocke Calm sofa with a soft velvet type upholstery that is also bleach cleanable. I will never have to replace that sofa and honestly I’ll pass down to my kids.

Unfortunately you do have to work through someone like me at a dealership, but it’s all incredible quality.

I paid a fortune for a sofa/loveseat thinking that I'll never get tired of that particular style.

Yes, they started making typewriters after the Civil War concluded and the demand for guns dropped. Pretty interesting history.

High quality materials, robust design, and good quality control/survivor bias is my guess.

You bet! Visit your local thrift stores and hunt around during garage sale season. That’s where I got all of mine.

Considering you can get their socks and some other things at Walmart now, I would say their quality is probably slipping a bit. That being said, directly from them the quality may be better.

The vinegar kills bacteria and breaks down any coffee stain residue which is why I use it. I rinse mine out and then fill it half full, put the lid on, shake it vigorously, and drain it upside down in my drying rack. Never had a tainted taste. I clean my percolating coffee maker the same way.

Keep in mind that these are the older US made versions which appear to be made better and of higher quality materials. From what I’ve read, there’s also charcoal in the walls which make them much more robust. They don’t do this anymore. That’s why new ones are much lighter than the old ones.

Pendleton always gets love but I have to throw Faribault Mill out there as well. Their Frontier bed blankets are fantastic - thick, soft, and warm. I used mine all 4 seasons except for two nights when it was a bit too hot to use. I’ve bought 7 blankets from them over the years and can’t recommend them enough.

There is a lot of anecdotal evidence suggesting that the quality control is lacking and the chances of getting a good one is hit and miss. There is likely survivor bias as well: the US made ones that stopped working got thrown away, so all that’s left are the good ones.

I have one of the newer ones and lost the inner cap. Contacted Stanley to order a new one and they replaced it free of charge.

There are thermal patches that can be applied and then “glued” on with heat gun or moderately hot iron but honestly it will be cheaper to buy a new one, it’s hard to thermally apply things on synthetic fabric since its’s destroyed by high temps. You can try just applying sticky tape but it won’t be pretty. Columbia should have significant discounts this time of the year so order some cheap winter jacket from them.
