Well the insides of these older ones are better. They were made by Hobart, who still make commercial mixers to this day.

Main differences are in the gearing inside (metal on older vs plastic on newer ones). Newer ones will still likely last quite a long time, and the plastic gear is a wear part/sacrificial to prevent more expensive damage.

The Aeron chair. I got mine when it was 10 years old, with 1 year left on its warranty which came in extremely handy. It must be over 20 years old now, with no problems since that repair.

I missed the $200 thing, but mine was free, so... You can get them used for a lot less than new, and as long as it is within the warranty you should be good to go. It's also worth waiting and saving up for it.

I have a rice maker and bread maker by zojirushi, both second hand items. Both are amazing. Have lasted 10 years or more (I’ve had them 10 years) now I am going to look at a thermos by them

Steelcase are the best (better than overhyped Hermann-Miller, I used to have an Aeron) but certainly not at that price, even used. Think closer to $1000. I bought my Leap in 2008 and it’s still going strong, though the upholstery is stained. I had to replace the gas cylinder at the 12 year mark, a $100 part I changed myself.

Awesome mixer but the first thing I thought looking at the pic was that my butthole cat would do everything in his power to rip those cords down. Especially if it meant that something else got broken in the process.

I never put it in the dishwasher. I use denture cleaning tablets as they work the best. I've tried everything from ice, salt, lemon juice, peroxide baking soda in all forms of combinations. You name it, everything but soap. Denture tablets work the best so far. Fill it full of hot water and drop in two tablets. Let it soak overnight and brush out in the morning. Sparkling. I also throw my seals in there too. And I cap it with the stopper so it cleans the bottom of it. Don't seal it because it'll probably blow up.

I'm a truck driver and heavy equipment operator. This thing has taken some abuse but it's still going strong!

Can confirm these things never die. My mother has been using one that her grandmother gave her in the 90s. I looked up the part number and manufacture date and it’s from the 60s.

Zojirushi's keep coffee hot for so long it's almost annoying. They're amazing.

No, Whirlpool ought out Kitchenaid in 1986 and cheapened the design. They work okay but nothing like the Hobart models.

Do you put it through the dishwasher? I'm curious what your job is now for it to look like that! Mine still looks almost new after a few years, but I am mostly an office based engineer.

My daughters mother gifted me one for Christmas in '96 and it's in better shape today than I am.

Interesting to know about the Dyson! One of the reasons I was going to buy one was the appeal of being able to put all the tubes and plastic components into the sink for a good soak and cleaning in hopes that it wouldn’t stink. Have had our roomba for a year and surprisingly it doesn’t smell at all, limited use case and more supplemental than a real vacuum replacement but still. Curious as to why some stink with animals and others not.

Completely agree. I’ve got the large spatula, bench scraper, and grill scraper. Really well built.

Not Uniqlo, I have some of their shirts from 10+ years ago, but the new ones have holes in less then a year.

That’s because you need to strengthen your feet. We tend to over cushion our feet and that leads to issues. Add in age, excess weight and our feet take a beating. Cushion is great but it can lead to bad habits in stride that can create further issues. Runners see this when they try and transition to minimal running shoes and the figure out the heel striking they do with a big cushioned shoe they can’t do with in a minimal one. So it changes the way you stride and you are better for that as it shows you the things you can’t do or are only getting away with because you are bubble wrapping your feet.
