Actually ford does the same thing back in the late 2000s to early 2010s with the sync 2 system and it has bluetooth audio and calling, plus add on to the fact my 08 escape and 2011 f150 were tanks (outside of general maintenance like fluids and batteries and previous owner lack of maintenance)

escape rusted out, f150 sold due to a high offer of 20k in 2020

I have a few 20 year old nalgenes, and let me tell you, I abused the hell out of them. They were my main water bottle (also had a dromedary bag) on a cross country walkabout. Used them with Paracord to throw lead lines for everything from bear bags to climbing rope which basically meant me chucking them all over the place as a weight. Today, my 12 year old son took one to school with him.

I have never ever had one break, a lid break, and only once had the lid strap crack on one. Probably to most indestructible things I own.

Silhouette Titan Minimal Art (aka TMA) is my choice. They are expensive, but I have the optometrist swap the lenses and have had them last over a decade easily. (It's best if you eventually have two pairs, then you take the older one in to update and the pair you were wearing becomes your back-up pair and you just keep swapping them.)

You will not be able to do this at Costco, only at optometrists that carry Silhouette.

They are titanium and hingeless and even used in space! https://spaceref.com/press-release/silhouette-optical-awarded-certified-space-technologytm-status/ (The only difference is theirs have heavy tinting on the lenses, but they use the stock frame)

If you don’t mind weight. I really enjoy my Hydro Flasks. They do what i want. Comfortable to me and a good lid. They keep my water cold all day. However, i bet you can get similar performance from cheaper bottles. I’ve never used the lifetime warranty to see if they’ll replace a bottle but that could offset the price difference if they will easily.

You can get a similar performing at Walmart (ozark trails) though i don’t care for their lids. If you have something similar to TJ Maxx you can get a good deal on Hydro Flask at the cost of not many color options or you can buy a random off brand for a even better price and probably similar performance.

If weight matters, Nalgene. Great bottle. Cheap and lightweight. If you manage to somehow break it, buy another for cheap. It’s simple. But it won’t keep your water cold long and it will sweat.

If you have 15 min, watch this. Project Farm has a good video on bottle testing.

Yeti is the best when it comes to these items. I have tried many of the popular brands, and while they don't suck, Yeti has held up the best. Also, many talk about just getting the knock off version. I think they're missing a valuable part of BIFL. Yeti has replacement lids and nearly everything (and some form of warranty) where you can continue to use the item for a long time. Those Ozark trail ones have already changed designs on some of them I believe.

Honestly, they do such high volume in the lens lab when a frame that isn't from Costco is sent in it slows down the process dramatically just because they don't already have the pattern for that lens to trace. There are other things that can cause issues with the frame as well that the lab may deny. By the time I left Costco I was seeing 70% of the ones we sent in to see if the lab would accept, were denied.

If they're plastic, a lot of times ther is also concerns for the lip that holds them as it fades over time when pulling and pushing lenses in and out of the frame. Sometimes the lab has to do that more than several times to get the best fit and if there are concerns for possible lens not fitting or breaking the frame they won't take it for those reasons.

Honestly though of the companies I've worked for, I still shop and get my glasses from there. The only thing I was ever told to upsell was multiple pairs since they make more money on volume. Never had an issue trying to use an outside frame if we could.

Im a yeti fanboy but what does your child like? Do they only drink cold water like me? Do they not care? If they dont care give them a Nalgene because if they lose it its very cheap. Its a child they probably wont care about losing a water bottle, if they like cold water definitely go a yeti.

So I actually have a small(er) head and often need more narrow frames to have them stay on my face even when new. I think the issue is that they loosen really quickly, like a couple of months. I think you’re right that a metal frame might be the way to go, as the acetate ones literally fall off my face the minute I look down or sneeze.

Costco has great prices but they were very much against me using my own frames. I was able to get them to take my metal frames, but not my plastic ones (Nike & Rayban 2140s) The Nikes were used but in decent shape and the Raybans were brand new, but not prescription marked. I was disappointed they didn't let the lab make the call.

So I'm wondering how much of that was a legit concern for the quality of the frames vs how much was just about selling frames.

(Thanks for the thoughtful post above...getting adjustments is really important)

I have been using a Klean Kanteen literally everyday for about 15 years. It's just stainless steel with a thick plastic cap and a silicone O-ring for a seal. I think I've replaced the O-ring twice, and I think I'm still on the original cap. I've dropped it numerous times, so there are some light scratches and dents on the bottle and the cap. I put the bottle and cap in the dishwasher occasionally, and the cap doesn't seem to be affected by the dishwasher. I've probably drank several thousand gallons of water out of this bottle.

I tried the sport cap briefly, but I didn't like it. The regular screw cap with a loop on top is the way to go.

Edit: the cap has a 2009 date stamp inside it, so about 14 years

According to the electrician who came out to a similar situation at our house the issue is the circuit the heater is plugged into. It needs its own dedicated circuit to be safe, like your refrigerator or HVAC would have. If you don't know what that is or how to find it, you can have an electrician help with that usually for a service call fee. Maybe a few hundred to set one up, more if you have old wiring.
