This. There are SO MANY. Any normal wool coat is just as effective as a modern down coat, and they last a lot longer. And they don't have plastic. I've been wearing mine for like 15 years and it still looks and works fine, and near as I can tell fits exactly with NYC fashion.

Solovair boots are like better made Doc Martins, there’s also Red Wing boots which are popular, Thursdays also makes popular boots.
As a New Yorker, I always have to add timberlands, premium versions in wheat or black.

I was going to say Chrome, but they don't seem to make my bag anymore. On the other hand the important part is, when the material along the zipper wore out after five years, they replaced the bag no questions asked, because it was normal wear. It's a lifetime warranty, plus a one year guarantee. The replacement had a better zipper design with a bit more flexibility, so I expect it to last longer.
Of their existing bags, the Hondo seems closest to what I have.
That being said, I have something from Deuter and that's the most comfortable, but I can't speak to its longevity. Though they do have a lifetime warranty where they will attempt repairs.

I remember being gifted a Sharp Elsi Mate calculator at age 10 or so, had that same screen. That was in 1976. I thought it was super cool.

I've got a 9 year old bag from them that I used daily for 7 years and it's held up amazingly

I haven't had them more than a year yet, but I am constantly noticing how sturdy my Wolverine boots are compared to the (6?) pairs of women's leather boots (some of which cost more) I went through before them.

Check out Mystery ranch, the Rip Ruck and Urban Assult look nice. I've seen them in a few REI's near me. I have the Coulee daypack for hiking and its great. Seems very durable and looks almost brand new after owning it for 3 years.
