I'm an accountant old enough to remember the days when every accountant had one on their desk. My first firm had plenty of old timers clacking away on these things all day. I actually find that super satisfying, real soothing in an odd sort of way.
I had one at my desk when I was a rookie but being younger I used excel as god intended. A partner came over to my desk once to go over my work and he ran some numbers on the ten key I never used. I said no that's wrong, the real number is such and such, and couldn't figure out how to use the damn thing. The partner found it hysterical that a licensed cpa with degrees and everything didn't know how to use a ten key. (I find it amusing and depressing when they don't know how to use excel, but who asked me.)

My dad had one of those. It outlived him.

Accounting is a very conservative profession slow to change, so a lot of old school partners at firms still have those big old things on their desk. I worked with a dinosaur for a while who knew exactly how old and out of touch he was and didn't apologize for it. Guy would print things out on paper and bang out a bunch of numbers on his ten key that was older than me. He knew his shit though and was really darn good in his own way, just..really really old..but yes you are right there's no reason except nostalgia or habit.

I like bamboo. I think they are labeled as ‘toast tongs’. Near daily use gets me about 1-2 years. I always keep a backup pair.

Just have them go look at a new Camry Hybrid. The car will most certainly outlive them, it’s roughly the same size as the Avalon he’s been driving, has great visibility and safety, and an LE model is pretty simple in terms of the “tech”.

Tried broccoli usually can lock in vapor but I think I had heat up to high ended up taking it off burner. I think next time I’ll add a small tablespoon of water to speed things up.

Fantastic!!
My main "need" atm is chopping/dicing celery, bell peppers, carrot & onion
I make 2-3 gallons of soup/curry/stew/sauce at a time, family meal prep
So maybe a half gallon's worth of chopped veg to start, the size dicing can be rough or even julienne
Think it would work for that?

Maybe it's about time for him to tuck away the drivers licensed.

KitchenAid is owned by Whirlpool and is American owned. Though I’d be willing to bet items like these are purchased from Chinese suppliers and simply branded as kitchenaid.

FWIW, I have a Cuisinart that I use less often than I expected because my Bamix stick blender attaches to a chopper and a slicer. The Bamix is easier to store and clean. I also have a couple favorite recipes that call for a food processor, but a blender is actually more convenient. Maybe check out some Bamix videos online to see if it would work for you, then look for older models on eBay. Mine is 20 years old and works like new.

A lot of folks in that demographic seem to gravitate towards the Subaru Forrester. Easy to get in, easy to get out, and terrific visibility.
