Metal tongs for me are not bifl. They always fail eventually. The rivet on that kitchenaid for example is a weak point.

I long ago switched to a type of plastic tongs, never going back as they seem near indestructible. I even leave them on my pan and zero issues with melting. Far easier to clean also.

A cheap set like this is basically bomb proof:

A lot if the “newfangled tech” in modern vehicles is required by law now (safety features) so some of the stuff he will have to accept if buying a brand new car.

With that said, have you looked at Hyundai? I know three older folks with Hyundai sedans, and all love them.

Well they are all pretty simple to operate, gas breaks turning signals….you don’t have to touch any of the fancy buttons. You might be overthinking this.

Following this line of logic, I think small shops are the only ones with aligned incentives. A single person or small team is never going to run out of people to sell to, provided they can ship far enough. Of course just being a small shop isn't a guarantee of quality. Probably the opposite— there's a lot more variability between good and bad between small shops, or even between different batches from the same shop. But at least the possibility is there. So I guess that points to… something like etsy? Or local, if it exists in your area.
