The issue with synthetics today is that there’s been research that shows that synthetics when compared to natural fibers such as cotton or wool, contain high amounts of PFAS and BPAS, cancer containing chemicals that can cause hormonal problems, infertility, etc. PFAS are especially problematic since they do not decompose over time, but instead, they build up in the body, causing terrible issues. I would say avoid all synthetics if you can in clothing or any other material your family would be in contact with on the daily basis. Opt for organic cotton or wool. Facebook marketplace or other face groups that have sellers and buyers would be an excellent place to look for decently priced stuff.

I've had a Sterlite that I bought to take to college in 1994, and it's still in great shape. I've had several other brands fall apart over that time, but recently found more Sterlite baskets at BJs. The new ones aren't as sturdy as the first one, but they seem to be good quality.

It's two ferries (one very expensive) and still driving, plus an extra hotel stay due to ferry timing to get to the US from here even though I am technically within 200 km of the border...it's really not a quick day trip if you aren't in a border town. Even when I lived on the mainland, I lived in a part of Canada that just didn't have much on the US side.

If it's for your profession then that is a whole different animal. I'm talking personal, hobby work. I do some building and repair around the farm, inexpensive power tools have lasted for years. I found I use a few hand tools to point where they were degrading, so I got Klein versions of them, but there majority of the tools in the shed are bargain bin harbor freight.
