I think OP specified chef's knife, but yes, given one knife period, a chinese cleaver is what I would get.

Osprey. Their sizing options are really good, and they make the most comfortable packs I've ever used. (Plus they will repair or replace if something goes wrong.)
Whatever you choose, I highly recommend going to a store and trying the pack on in person. REI and probably other outdoor stores will help you fit it and let you put some weight in it and walk around the store for a bit to make sure it's comfortable.

There's a good reason you don't see these in commercial kitchens.

I can't believe people buy this kind of stuff.

Does anyone have experience with a bifl floor sweeper though? Like the non-electric kind? I feel like it’s overkill to spend so much on an electric vaccum when I just have small area rugs.

Tojiro dp knives are pretty amazing for the price point. They’re frequently rated in the top three on serious eats reviews, often number one. If they’re out of your price range, Dalstrong knives are solid, and fairly cheap

If I was going to invest all of my budget in a single knife, it'd be a Sukenari.

The Lee Valley French Peasant Chef's Knife: https://www.leevalley.com/en-ca/shop/kitchen/knives-and-cutlery/knives/kitchen-knives/52770-peasant-chefs-knife?item=45K3646
We love ours so much that we bought a second because we would steal it back and forth while prepping dinner. It is comfortable for both my smol ladyhands and my husband's meatmitts simultaneously which is rare in a tool! Takes a good edge and sharpens easily. I recommend picking up a set of King waterstones at the same time.
The only other knife we really use near daily is a breadknife. Rather than a set, we just have a universal knifeblock with the two identical chef knives, a breadknife, a cleaver (we only really use this for butchery - it makes certain disassembly tasks easier....and does an oddly satisfying job cutting pizzas), and our steakknives.

Just get a Sebo X7 automatic. They have automatic brush height adjustment so your carpets are cleaned effectively but not to the point of abusing the fibres out of it

Yessir. Very little has changed between the old ones and the modern equivalent. Mostly finishes.

If you can only have one, this is a good choice. Cleans real easy and the handle grips well when damp, so you can wash it off and switch tasks with it.

I have a super old version that predates this version by maybe 20 years. It still works as well today as it did when I first got it. It’s a complete tank.
I used to use Robocoupes in restaurants and the Cuisinart is not far behind.

All Clad D3. Comes in every shape and size you could want. Induction friendly and all SS including lid so oven friendly too.
https://homeandcooksales.com/ has factory seconds/damaged packaging for sale at discount. That's where I got mine.

Amazing bags. Couldn't agree more. I have 2, no issues with either of them and I've done some stupid shit with them. One I've had for ~ 10 years and use it for travel, hiking, day use, etc.
REI typically has pretty good deals on osprey bags, especially this weekend for Presidents' Day.

Look into a robot vacuum. They take a little more maintenance than an upright but they are basically carpet sweepers. Run it once a day and you will be amazed at how much hair they pull out! Choices are very subjective but I’ve had a roomba S9 for 3 years now running daily with zero problems- the newer units made changes to the brush designs that make them way more immune to pet hair. In general IRobot is very good with part availability and interchangeability.

+1000!!! I did a ton of research for my home (hardwood floors, low pile area rugs, and two dogs) and just purchased a Numatic Henry and I am already blown away!
The info from the fine folks at r/vacuum was incredibly helpful. I had never heard of the Henry until I saw it’s high endorsement over there.

Most of these sellers are just reselling cheap products they find on Alibaba for a tenth of the listed price.

My parents have a Miele that is over 20 years old and still works like a dream. I have a much cheaper Miele that I've had for 8 years now and it works amazingly well. Theirs was close to $1000 and mine was around $400, if you are looking for price info. We have a double-coated dog that sheds outrageously, all hardwood flooring, and a mix of low and high pile rugs throughout the house. I'd highly recommend a Miele. I've never had long term luck with a carpet sweeper.
