I've found estate sales, online auctions and in person, to be great sources of BIFL items like wool hand-tufted rugs that I would never be able to afford new. I pay a local rug cleaner to clean them and even with that cost it usually turns out that I get a good quality rug for 10-20% of what I'd pay in a rug store.

"Large capacity, top loader, heavy duty machine that will meet my needs"
This is not a thing in BIFL. You want it to be. We get that. But it is not a thing.
If you want a small capacity, top loader, heavy duty machine, then any of the Speed Queens or the Maytag 575 will do you. Sadly, many asshats here are giving you blanket advice, I am not. There are no known BIFL large capacity top loaders.

I would have to agree with most comments: sets suck. Hubby bought me a set of SS all-in-one (handle & blade) steel knives. I wouldn't suggest them. They spend their time in a knife block in our China cabinet. It came with a steel: that gets used the most. He also bought me a good knife, that he keeps incredibly sharp.
So, buy 1 good chef's knife, make sure handle & blade separate, have a good steel, buy as you need. Good luck

It’s the opposite for me. My balls never stick to my thigh anymore which is awesome. I find normal boxer briefs to be unwearable now.

I absolutely despised saxx, the little “pouch” they have for your Johnson/balls is so uncomfortable just feels like you’re being squeezed constantly

We’ve assembled all the All-Clad we’ll ever need for about $250 from shopping estate sales. Took about 6 months worth of weekends.

I see Land's End fairly frequently, particularly jackets and bags. The old made in USA-era leather goods often look near-new and feel well made.

Wusthof CLASSIC. Their gourmet line isn't worth a damn.

LL Bean. I found a nightgown of theirs at the thrift store and it’s literally my favorite piece of clothing. I also have moccasin slippers by them that have lasted 10 years. Anything they make is usually great quality.
Vintage furniture. We have telephone tables from the 1960s that are still in fabulous shape.
Pendleton makes great wool products, I’ve found a few skirts by them. I’ve heard they also make blankets and things like that.
Vintage linen is far superior quality to stuff today. I’ve found towels from the 70’s that are still going strong.

Oddly I bought a Chinese chef knife to try out the different knife techniques as kind of a novelty and now use it for almost all my normal meal prep. I cannot say that I would recommend a $12 Winco knife for most people, but it is strange how habbits and style can take you to an entirely different direction in knife choice.

Patagonia is one. They have a lifetime warranty and if they can’t patch it for free they’ll give you a credit towards a new item. I have found so many things for less than 50 for items priced well over 100-300

Yes! I think they assume all women like to shop endlessly and are moving on to the next trend anyways 😒

German cleaver and 10" chef's knife here for the heavy stuff. I've chopped hostas apart with that knife. I know, but it works.
Japanese santoku & 8" chef's knife for regular work.

I wouldn't tell that to someone who doesn't who doesn't know much about tools. Most of the tap and die sets I see at garage sales are made in Japan probably from the 80s or 90s and are absolute garbage. They were sold and priced like what Harbor Freight is today.

While I agree, this sub isn't about those kinds of criticisms. This is one of those times it is ok to keep your opinion to yourself.
