I second what most people are saying about sewing. But if you want to try something else, I've been pretty successful patching wool with needlefelting. I bought a small needle felting kit and patched a bunch of moth holes on my wool blanket. It's a very visible patch, but was fun to do.

They were actually cheaper off Amazon for me. On the Thursday website you have to pay import tax which bumped the price up quite a bit. Also meant returns would be a nightmare, but thankfully I ordered the right size :)

  1. avoid anything digitally controlled, avoid Samsung like the plague. fridges from the early 2010's are usually pretty energy efficient and wont be unrepairable when it breaks down.
  2. Mops are explicitly not buy-for-life. That's just nastly.
  3. No suggestion for the steam cleaner; never needed one. Use ammonia based glass cleaner for almost everything.
  4. Vacuums go bad; youre best off buying second hand and replacing when it breaks.
  5. top loaded, analog controlled washer and dryer; aim for from the early 2000's again. washers and dryers from that era are easy to work on and use generally interchangeable parts.
  6. whole-house water filters are borderline a scam imo.
  7. your central air system has a rather intense filter built into it; just make sure that puppy is clean and you should be dust free.

You can get the some of the popular Thursday boots (Captain etc) on Amazon UK now FWIW. I’m no big boot wearer but had my Captains for a while and I think they’re great value for the price.

*Used to make damn fine stuff. IMO since they've gained popularity they've clearly switched up to quantity over quality production. I have old pants and flannels from them that have lasted 6+ years. I have new pants and flannels that are less than 3 years old and look worse than my older items already.

Levi’s - not BIFL (no jeans are), but good quality. You can get Levi’s in Europe as well, but I understand that the prices are much much higher than buying them in the States. Hit up a department store like Macy’s and you should be able to get a pair on sale for $30 or less.
