My parents are actually very poor. They dont even work right now, drive, or speak english. They have their own expenses and finances sorted out comfortably but i wouldn’t expect them to take care of anything for me. Only provide me the free rent.

Im planning all the finances only considering my own.

Does that change much?

It's not worth it for most, myself included I used to travel extensively. At least weekly domestically and once a month overseas.

I've worn out backpacks and shoulder bags. Never a rolling carry on or suitcase.

Do they break? Yes, eventually. When they do have the airline pay for em. If your traveling enough to wear out or break a bag. You have status with the airlines. It's never taken me more than 20 minutes to get a brand new bag and be in my way.

You raise good points, but really I think it depends on the terms of the 401k loan. You’d have to read the plan document to see what it says about the interest. I was more so saying don’t do a 401k loan because of potential penalties if you don’t repay it back in a certain amount of time, mandatory holding periods must be reached or there’s required 20% withholding, etc.

I was thinking of other factors too like building / rebuilding credit, how much of an account balance is in there vs how much is in credit card debt

Two of my college friends shared an apartment in New Brunswick like 8 years ago. A guy claiming to be a utility worker of some sort came to their place and said the landlord had sent him for something (don't remember what). They let him in, he walked around the 2 bedroom place for a few minutes not inspecting anything in particular, just looking at the kitchen appliances, popped his head into their rooms, said he was done and left.

The following week, their house got broken into while they were out. Whoever did it stole the TVs and their gaming systems. After a few days they thought about it, called their landlord and PSE&G - nobody had been sent over to their place to inspect anything the previous week.
