Our puppy died when he was just twelve months old. My kids were 5 and 9. We told them he “had died”.

The five year old was sad and cried. She told everyone the “Buster died”. A few months later she asked “When is Buster coming back?”

So I think I would add “Buster died and we won’t see him again” or something similar so they understood it is finite. Otherwise they’re just in a sadness holding pattern

You don't know him yet. You barely know him at all. I don't want to put unnecessary fears in your head, but its best to assume the worst when you're leaving someone. From what you've said I'm scared of him. He hasn't had a calm or normal reaction to anything so far.

When I read your title I thought "yeah, right. well let's see if he has anything to say".

Then I quickly realized you were speaking some deep truths that are unfortunately depressing to think about. You're absolutely right, though.

It seems like most of the ways things could play out are not good for the human race. Feels like we're threading a needle.
