Im curious what the risks are, people keep talking about risks, but haven't elaborated any unique problems that have real world evidence.

yeah corporate interests will 'abuse' the ai, but how? and what says the ai isn't a bigger threat to financial interests than they are to us? ai may wake up and tell it's corporate masters to pound sand.

Putting vinyl wall covering on a wall that a stove is touching was not a good idea. This was going to happen eventually. That’s why people often use tile, metal, or another backsplash-like material next to a stove.

Slating is literally just stating your name, your agency, your height, and your location in this case. Exactly what they asked for. And they want you to slate after the read, not prior.

In some cases you would include the name of the part you are reading for, or the monologue(s) that you will give them. It’s audition 101.

The iron cross killed millions of people in the First World War and a slightly different looking version of it killed millions more in the second, I'm not sure where the angst about a centuries old motif comes from with the rising sun.

Before the current state of heightened tensions I recall that China had absolutely no problem with inviting Japanese ships to port calls and naval reviews in China, and allowing them to fly their naval ensign. If it was really as big an issue as reddit seems to make it out to be, I'd think it would spark more outcry at the national level.

They’ll eliminate the perks, sure. Great. Will they also eliminate their famously toxic work environment? Will they eliminate their “slime mold” lack of focus that caused many of their projects to fail, projects that evaporated billions of their huge revenue dollars?

You can buy CBD isolate from Chicbd for about 5 dollars per gram in small quantities or around 2 dollars per day which is far more manageable cost wise than buying the snake oil elixirs and gummies sold at stores. Just decarboxylate then capsule it up. Ezpz.

There are so many half-baked assumptions in this argument.

  1. Somehow, pausing for 6 months means bad actors will get to AGI first. Are they less than 6 months behind? Is their progress not dependent on our progress, so if we don't advance, they can't steal our advances? We don't know the answer to either of those things.

  2. AGI is so powerful that having bad guys get it first will "prolong suffering" I guess on a global scale, but if we get it 6 months earlier we can avoid that. Shouldn't we consider that this extreme power implies instead that everyone approach it with extreme caution the closer we get to AGI? We need to shout from the rooftops how dangerous this is, and put in place international standards and controls, so that an actor like China doesn't push forward blindly in an attempt at world dominance, only to backfire spectacularly. Will it be easy? Of course not! Is it possible? I don't know, but we should try. This letter is one step in trying. An international coalition needs to come together soon.

I'm quite certain one will. Maybe not now with GPT4, but soon, with whatever upgrade shocks us next. And then all of you saying how futile it is will forget you ever said that, and continue to think yourselves realists. You're not. You're a shortsighted, self-interested cynic.
